Friday the 13th
Written from Clay on Friday the 13th. One to be remembered.
6:30: Phone call: Lydia is undergoing surgery in 10 minutes. Crap.
9am: Wyatt and Ava are extubated and are pretty much breathing on their own. Yay!
10am: Wyatt needs a blood transfusion, and Ava also has a cleft palate. Crap.
11:30: Lydia’s surgery was a success, and she’s looking better. Yay!
Noon: False alarm on Wyatt’s blood transfusion. He doesn’t need it. Yay!
3:30: Lydia’s heart is in much better shape than expected, and will likely need 1 less heart surgery… Yay!
..although she’ll now need one to repair the fistula in her esophagus. Crap.
5:00: Wyatt got the blood transfusion. Crap.
5:30: Everyone is breathing, digesting, and generally getting by much better than anticipated. Lydia will be extubated when she wakes up, the results of the head and stomach ultrasound tests were completely normal, and it’s time to finally celebrate for a brief moment. And I’m doing that on facebook.
Amanda is recovering beautifully, and was able to get a 4 hour pass to spend some time with Lydia in the NICU. I was able to escape for a brief moment this evening to enjoy what was probably the best beer of my life. Thanks, Brent and Kelly.
Thank you, truly, for all your kind words, encouragement, and most of all, prayers. It’s been a day with the lowest lows and highest highs I can recall. Knowing that you are invested in our journey has been more empowering than I can find any small way to describe. We are overwhelmed, grateful, joyful.
