A long overdue Lydia update: After her two “crashes” last month due to a mystery infection, Lydia is finally back on the conventional ventilator, and off the heart medications and nitric oxide. The CT scan showed no pockets of infection, which likely means that there is either a leak in her esophagus, or some other infectious fluid coming from somewhere causing a mediastinitis which is swelling and irritation (inflammation) of the area between the lungs (mediastinum). This area contains the heart, large blood vessels, windpipe (trachea), esophagus, thymus gland, lymph nodes, and connective tissues..
She’ll have an esophagram tomorrow or this week to find out, and then, they’ll turn off the paralytic to let her wake up again. Clay will be here in Boston through next Monday to see her through the process and return just in time for Fall semester at BC.
Home seems farther away now than it did only a month ago, but the goal remains the same: let’s get back to KC.
On the the living at home with 2 drunken midgets front: Wyatt got his first “warning and this better not be a repeat” from a rather cross librarian for a biting indiscretion when a grumpy mom turned him in for biting her 5 year old who plucked a book out of his hands. Only left a wee bit of drool and hardly a bite mark. His wanted pic will soon be appearing at the Parkville Branch so good thing there’s more libraries in the mid-continent public library system. Guess we’ll be reading “Teeth are Not for Biting” yet again tonight.
