Three Little Birds

Story of 3 little birds and one who soared above us all.

Welcome Liam!

On 2/12/14 at 12:02PM, we welcomed our fourth little bird, Mr. Liam Grayson Johnston. He entered the world at a robust 8 lbs 4 oz, 20 inches long with Ivy League Apgar scores of 9 & 10. (Higher scores than his 3 siblings combined and a weight more than double his sisters). It’s amazing what incubating a full 39 weeks does for a baby. Not to brag too much, but we think he’s a pretty gifted newborn as he’s so advanced! He came out and immediately was chomping on his fingers ready for his first meal in which he just latched right on as if nursing was no big deal. What a different and amazing experience it has been to bring this one hearty little guy into the world. It was such a beautiful sound to hear his healthy lungs in full force as his doctor said “Well hello Liam my boy!” I’m still embracing his no need for any monitors and that he just gets hang out in the room with me and will be going home with us! Also much to our great relief: he is heart healthy, all plumbing is intact and functional (he’s already peed on me), no cleft palate and he looks enough like Wyatt’s early pics, we believe he is ours and definitely a keeper! We feel so very blessed to welcome him into our lives and he is just pure fat baby delight.

Which way way to the beach ladies?

Ava loves her new brother. She’s very concerned about him having toys to play with and ready to assume all motherly duties. When she first saw him, she asked me “is he real?”

Wyatt likes his new brother but immediately after he was positioned for holding, he announced he was all done. He was far more interested in my monitors, IV lines and where the nurse was putting the trash due to his latest fascination with the books and cartoon of “I Stink” and “Trashy Town”. Perhaps his love of proper waste sanitation and recycling will lead into the bio health sanitation field?

Mr. Bright Eyes very content after his 4AM feed

Fat baby in a preemie suit. Doesn’t look like he’ll be wearing any of Wyatt’s preemie clothes but I may have to jam him in some for some good photos.

Bobo also become a new brother to Liam’s new monkey Coco. Wyatt is not sure Liam is up for the responsibility and is claiming he needs to keep Coco. Brotherly sharing Day 1 proving to be difficult.

  1. I’m so happy for all of you! What a beautiful new addition you have to the family. Enjoy these moments with your new bundle of joy. He is a doll (which is probably why Ava asked if he was real!).
